In a blog last week we discussed some of the findings of the CBI’s new absence and workplace health survey.

The CBI interviewed 241 employers representing over 1.28 million employees for the survey and found that the average rate of absence in UK organisations has fallen from 6.7 days per employee in 2007 to an average of 6.4 days per employee last year.

However, the survey also found that employee absence cost the UK economy almost £17 billion in 2009, which suggests that, despite the decline in absence levels, absenteeism remains a costly problem for many British organisations.

80% of UK employers questioned in a new survey have said that closely monitoring and managing absence has led to a reduction in absenteeism in their organisation.
Conducted by the Confederation of British Industry, the survey found that there has been a gradual decline in absence levels in Britain over the past 25 years, with improved absence management and monitoring cited by respondents as the most important contributory factor.

Using LeaveMaster, you can quickly, accurately and efficiently record and monitor all types of leave and absence, including unwarranted sick days.

The most cost-effective way to tackle the problem of unwarranted absence in your organisation is to implement a leave and absence management solution such as LeaveMaster.

UK companies could experience a bout of post-recession sickness absence, the editor of Occupational Health magazine has claimed.

Talking on Personnel Today’s weekly podcast, Noel O'Reilly suggested that, as the economy picks up and fears over job security lessen, staff will be less worried about taking sick days and, as a result, sickness absence levels could rise.
