Although absenteeism rates are typically much higher in public organisations than in privately owned companies, a new TUC
report has found that public sector staff are actually more likely to come into work when ill than their private-sector counterparts.
The average UK employee takes 7.4 sick days a year, while local government staff take an average of 9.6 days and staff in the NHS take more than 11 days. However, a TUC study of more than 2,000 employees found that 41% of public-sector staff have struggled into work over the past year when they have felt ill, compared to 36% of staff in privately-owned companies.
The most effective way to manage absence in any type of organisation is to implement a leave management solution such as LeaveMaster.
