According to the CBI’s new absence survey, over 50% of UK employers believe staff in their organisation pretend to be ill in order to take time off work.
40% of employers surveyed by the CBI said they thought non-genuine sick days were taken by certain groups of employees or employees in certain locations in their organisation, while 13% of respondents said they thought non-genuine sick days occurred across their organisation. Only a third of the employers surveyed said they believed all sickness absence amongst their employees was genuine.
Around half the employers surveyed also said they believed there was a link between employee absence and weekends or Christmas and school holidays.
