An online survey of European employers has revealed the worst excuses employees give for needing to take a day off work.
Over 750 business leaders in British, French, German, Italian and Swedish organisations were asked to share examples of the most unusual excuses they have received from employees for needing to be absent.
Amongst the excuses given by employees were the fact that their foot was stuck in the toilet, someone had thrown a garden gnome through their window and they had to take their mother shopping.
One employee claimed to have been intoxicated by burning vines, one said she had
got her finger stuck in a car door and another claimed he had injured his leg chasing his dog to prevent it from attacking a rabbit. Another employee, meanwhile, had simply had a nightmare and felt too out of sorts to come to work.
